Imagine a future where gender nonconforming people are wholly accepted in their religious institutions. Antique reliquaries are often encrusted with jewels and precious gold. I wanted to employ a contemporary approach to a reliquary for a future LGBTQ activist to be honored.

Noted are the dates of three massacres of Chinese miners and others in the western United States and excerpts from anti-Chinese speeches from leaders such as Kaiser Wilhelm and the 45th president.

The Doll On The Shelf

From a child's point of view, there are myriad rules to live by. Children should be seen and not heard; our clothes should be clean and unwrinkled and toys that were gifted to us are too precious to really play with. Those toys should be put on the shelf till the benefactor comes to visit. Navigating the rules made for relative peace and harmony at home.

In Isolation

Our relationships with our pets intensified during the pandemic. This period of interdependence was intense for both owner and animal. In a reversal of roles, human owners were confined to smaller spaces while their pets enjoyed more freedom and attention than usual. And for some, this led to a profound adjustment phase when some people returned to on-site work as evidenced by the large number of animal surrenders. In some sense, we're still recovering from the pandemic as many seem to have changed their priorities and styles of living.

There are more firearms in the United States than people. 24 million have AR-15 type weapons. After firing a weapon, the body releases endorphins and dopamine, resembling a "high" followed by a calming sensation. But these numbers are affecting our mental health and physical safety and is unsustainable.
